Golf Australia Express : January 2013
MIGUEL BREAKS TOUR RECORD, THEN LEG SKIING VETERAN Spanish golfer Miguel Angel Jimenez will miss at least three months of golf after breaking his right leg in a skiing accident in Sierra Nevada late December. "I lost control and fell," Jimenez said. "I felt a huge stab of pain and I knew straight away I had broken something." Jimenez, who turns 49 on Saturday, became the oldest winner in European Tour history when he won the Hong Kong Open in November. AROUND THE TRAPS TICK FOR WATNEY, STANLEY NOT ONLY has Titleist lost its No.1 star Rory McIlroy to the swoosh, it has definitely lost another big PGA Tour name and another rising star to the Nike brand. Five-time PGA Tour winner Nick Watney has joined Tiger's team, with Nike officially announcing on January 1 the 32-year-old Californian had joined its growing stable. It's the first equipment change for Watney in his 10-year career and a huge coup for Nike. The company has also added rising talent Kyle Stanley to its mix. The 25-year-old Washington native made headlines last season when he won his first PGA Tour event at the Waste Management Phoenix Open just one week after squandering a six-shot lead late in the final round of the Farmers Insurance Open.
